Essential Applications
My new computer is on it's way to my house. I've compiled a short list of necessary applications to install. However, I was wondering what ESSENTIAL applications you wouldn't be able to live without. This includes anything -- web browsing, firewall, anti-virus, image editting, music player, etc.
Just curious.

Sygate Personal Firewall
Adware
Avast! Anti-Virus Home Edition
That's all I need and I've been virus/spyware/trojan-free since reformatting like 6 months ago.

I have been spyware free for 8 months (ever since I got this PC) and I haven't needed to use a single ad-aware type program. I just don't get spyware because I'm not stupid - tbh.
Personally I'd install:
- Firefox
- Microsoft Office 2003
- Macromedia Studio MX
- mIRC with NoNameScript Addon
^^ I couldn't live without them

Stupid me how could I forget Firefox!

How do you know your PC is spyware-free, if you don't use any applications designed to detect spyware?

How do you know your PC is spyware-free, if you don't use any applications designed to detect spyware?
1) I don't go on any of the shitty sites where you would get spyware from.
2) All programs I have installed are well known programs which are commonly trusted.
3) I know what every process in my process list does.
4) I have a popup blocker and I use Firefox.
5) My PC runs like a dream, and nothing unusual ever seems to happen, if you catch my drift.
6) Trust me, I know.
